Hangzhou Sharing Smiles with G20 International Volunteers
At the beginning of April, Gongshu District has warmly welcomed the International Volunteers from ZUST. The ten student team from countries such as Germany, Indonesia, Cameroon and Romania held an English Corner where Hangzhou's citizens could practice their English.
Since G20 is approaching with speedy steps, it seems like everybody is more willing to brush up their English skills. People from all walks of life came to us, at first shyly trying to gauge what are those foreigners doing at the stand. After exchanging a smile with each other and having a few really young participants breaking the ice, everything started to fall into place. Senior citizens, corporate employers, doctors, security officers and students, all were eager to learn or practice their conversation skills with the volunteers. We sang and played the guitar, we shook hands with them and took photos that will last us until our next meeting in May.
Even though the September summit is a capital economic event, Hangzhou is not forgetting to involve all its social power. Various exhibitions are being organized thanks to this event, including our English Corner, where International Volunteers can leave their mark and create an impression on the surrounding society. Yesterday's stand was our first meeting with the citizens of Hangzhou, but not the last. Each month you can find us in Gongshu District, sharing smiles and good vibrations. Let's keep it going!
